Where does the recycled plastic used in Dekavie boards come from?

D’où vient le plastique recyclé des planches Dekavie?

THE RIGHT RECYCLED PLASTIC FOR THE RIGHT USE

Every day, plastic is part of our daily lives: bottles, packaging, containers, toys… But did you know that not all types of plastic are created equal? Each family is made from different organic compounds with distinct properties. So what plastic are Dekavie boards made of, and why is this choice so important?

A high-performance plastic: HDPE

The material used in 100% of our Dekavie boards is high-density polyethylene, better known as HDPE. It is a thermoplastic, meaning it softens under high heat and hardens when cooled, allowing it to be precisely molded. UV protection and carefully selected color pigments are also added to ensure durability in Canadian climates.

Chemical resistance like no other boards

What truly makes this material remarkable is its chemical strength. HDPE is widely used to store chemicals, acids, and corrosive substances, such as industrial detergents, cleaning products, and laboratory reagents. If this plastic is designed to contain highly aggressive substances, imagine the resistance it offers for your patio season after season.

This includes de-icing salt: where wood deteriorates and many other materials degrade under winter de-icing products used in Quebec, Dekavie HDPE boards resist without issue.

Our HDPE recycled boards do not stain, do not fade, and require no maintenance. This quality applies to the entire Dekavie range: steps and risers, fascias, corners, and pre-finished joints. Every component benefits from these exceptional properties.

Our environmental commitment

Environmental responsibility is no longer a trend, it is a duty. At Dekavie, we address it concretely: our boards are made in Quebec from 100% recycled plastic.

The raw material arrives in the form of small pellets and shavings. It is melted, mixed with color pigments, and molded into patio boards ready to withstand Quebec winters.

Nothing is wasted, everything is transformed. Manufacturing scraps are reintegrated directly into the mix. And if you return your leftover material from your deck installation, it will also be reused to produce new boards.

The next time you place detergent bottles or yogurt containers in your recycling bin, know that they could end up under your feet on your future patio.

Now you know where Dekavie’s recycled plastic comes from and why it’s one of the best choices you can make.
